mask
(ILM)
Insertion technique
1) Following the
same initial procedures recommended for the standard LM,
fully deflate the cuff of the ILM prior to insertion and
lubricate its posterior surface with a water-soluble gel.
Initiate insertion, by rubbing the lubricant over the
anterior hard palate.
2)
Swing mask into place
in a circular motion, maintaining pressure against the palate
and posterior pharynx. |
3)
With the ILM
tube free, inflate the cuff with an air volume just enough to obtain a seal, to
a pressure of + / - 60 cm H2O.
Never overinflate the cuff.

Lubricate ETT and pass
through ILM tube.

5)
Carefully advance
until intubation is complete.
Do not use force.
Inflate ETT cuff and
confirm intubation. |

6) Remove connector and
gently ease the ILM out over the ETT into the oral cavity.
7) Remove the ILM
completely, gently unthreading the inflation line and pilot balloon of
the ETT.
Replace the ETT
connector and and confirm intubation. |
